Anna-Zoe Mauel
Zoe is a 25 years old student from Germany, she has studied at ENS in Paris where she graduated in Arts and Humanities. She is currently enrolled at Columbia University and happy to learn more about Ukraine at the School of International and Public Affairs.
It is hard to imagine what it is like to be torn out of one's ordinary context and to start again in a completely different environment, especially if the reason is war. She would like to do her part to make things a little easier for students. Her experience of living abroad can help, as she has already lived in France and America.

Alberta Christina Cahya Pertiwi
Alberta Christina Cahya Pertiwi is a first-year student of Human Rights MA at Columbia University focusing on indigenous women and children's rights in development. She is also an awardee of the Indonesian government scholarship (The Education Endowment Fund/LPDP). Her background was in social anthropology which led her to multiple spectrums of cultural aspects in the world we are living in. Prior to her master's journey, she spent her time as a full-time researcher and a volunteer teacher for children in Indonesian remote areas, as well as a coordinator and organizer for several social activities in Indonesia. Realizing her privilege of having access to education, she always wants to distribute her privilege through knowledge, experiences, and social activities by working together with other people. Distributing his privilege has always been her tool in his work, including sharing knowledge and experience with underprivileged people. Now, she is privileged enough to be able to share what she has learned with other people globally, including youths in Ukraine. Therefore, she wants to connect and do knowledge-sharing with those Ukraine young people while exchanging experiences as people from Global South.

Originally hailing from St. Petersburg, Russia, he's spent the last 9 years living abroad, 7 of them in the UK and 2 in the States. As such,he is no stranger to "beginning anew" in an unfamiliar place-he himself is going through that right now. At the moment, he is completing a master's degree in Human Rights, with a focus on refugee rights. He previously completed a bachelor's degree in History and Politics, focusing on imperialism and human rights violations. In his spare time, he enjoys jogging, cycling, reading, and debating He knows how tricky it can be settling into a completely new environment, both from personal and professional experience; doing so with a war ravaging one's own country, comparatively, must be even trickier. Mentoring someone in such a messy situation, to hiis mind, is the least he can do.

Elias Wachtel
Elias Wachtel is an undergraduate student studying Classics and Political Theory at Columbia. Aside from school, he also spends time reading old books, acting, and backpacking (over his gap year he hiked the 2,000+ mile Appalachian Trail). This past summer he was involved in a fellowship at a think tank in Washington DC studying political theory and public policy. Having worked as a college essay tutor before, he is experienced in helping people with applications and editing essays, resumes, and cover letters whether for schools, internship programs, or jobs. As a current undergraduate, he could act as a general resource for any students coming into US higher education. He has been incredibly inspired watching people young and old stand up to the Russian invasion and fight for their families, their homeland, and their way of life. Navigating the US education system can be confusing enough as it is, and he would be honored to help ease that burden for people in any small way he can.

Natalie McCullough
Natalie is Ukrainian-American (her mom is from Odesa, and dad is American). She grew up in the U.S. and immigrated to France in 2018. She thinks this puts her in a unique position to help young Ukrainians who may be trying to live abroad for the first time. On a deeper level, she is heartbroken by the suffering Russia is inflicting upon Ukraine. She knows immigration can be extremely challenging, both culturally and in terms of paperwork, and she’d like to help if she can. In 2019, she wrote her undergraduate thesis at Tulane University, on the intersection of language and identity in the post-soviet space. It focused on how and why non-Russian languages within the USSR (such as Ukrainian) were suppressed. In 2022, she finished her masters degree in Environmental Policy at Sciences Po, Paris, where she also continued studying post-soviet history and politics. Currently, she is an active alumni member of Sciences Po Ukraine Support. She is also the founder of Sciences Po Internationals / Visa Discussion, an online immigration support group with almost 1,000 members.

Thomas is currently an undergrad at Columbia University majoring in political science. He is 26 years old, and originally from Massachusetts, USA. Prior to dawning his pursuit of academia, he served 4 years in the United States Navy. He believes he has a very unique background to serve and assist you, with an immense passion to do so. He is excited to chat with you. He believes it to be imperative to provide assistance to those impacted by the war, in any capacity possible. War crimes being committed against Ukraine are not only a problem for their own country, yet a problem for the world. International liberalism is being challenged before our very eyes, and in his opinion, there is seldom a worse danger. Those who have been directly affected by the conflict provide extreme value and importance. After all, who better to implement change in the world than those who have endured the austerity of reality? His goal is to help give Ukrainians the tools and resources necessary to succeed, despite the continuing hardships.

Porsche Lee
Hi My name is Porsche. I was bored and raised in NYC where I got to experience the diverse culture that New York has to offer. I studied at SUNY-University at Buffalo majoring in Economic Finance and Biological Science. Afterwards, I went to work in the healthcare sector for two years before obtaining my Masters in Medical Sciences. I am currently a first year medical student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am a major advocate for equal access to health and hope to serve a medical missionary in the future to provide care to the sick. Motivation: Growing up to immigrant parents that did not know English well; I came to learn that the U.S. is quite different from other countries. Helping my parents assimilate to American culture can be demanding especially if one is not accustomed to the style of living, the culture, or even just the language. Through this program, I hope to help others achieve their goals and dreams by empowering them with determination and confidence to succeed.

Hello, my name is Aziza and I am currently a junior at Columbia University studying neuroscience. My aspiration for post-graduation from college is to pursue a medical degree. I love exploring New York City and all it has to offer on the weekends! I hope to inspire and educate those who need guidance to further their studies as I navigated the college system alone. I was born and raised in Ternopil, Ukraine, and moved to the US in early teens. I completed my BA in Rutgers University, in molecular biology and biochemistry, which followed by PhD in biological sciences at Columbia University. Currently I am employed as a postdoctoral research fellow in Columbia University, working in neuroscience and microscopy. We use the mouse as a model to study neuronal population code, sensory processing and schizophrenia associated deficits. My plan is to continue following an academic career and apply for a faculty position in the next couple of years, where I can both do research and teach. I also have a dream to one day to return to Ukraine and open up a lab there, to help develop and progress sciences back home.

My knowledge and experience allowed me to gain invaluable community life and adapt to the changing environment. My sixteen years of experience in one of the world's leading accounting firms include a vast track record of consulting projects for different types of clients and industries. Working in a business environment for a long time, I understand how vital and inspiring knowledge-sharing and mentorship could be for young people, students, and professionals. I want to support young Ukranians in pursuing their educational dreams and future endeavors.
